Saturday 19th June at 2.30 at Lowdham Festival I'll be in conversation with David Belbin and Anthony Cartwright. When I was writing Memoirs Of A Master Forger I had no idea that my writing-teaching colleague David Belbin was engaged at the very same time on a similarly-titled project. He was also completely unaware of my enterprise, since we never discuss work in progress. David's fine novel, ultimately published as The Pretender came out at around the same time as mine. Fortunately we both know each well enough to recognise that neither of us has the least need to hunt down the other's ideas! It was a curious co-incidence (possibly of the kind that might lead to murder in the faculty, if this were a novel). It was a bizarre and rather fascinating meme, and we will be discussing this at the festival in the company of Anthony Cartwright, author of Heartland.
